Commanders Comments

December 2025

Dear comrades, auxiliary, and those that support the VFW. It is with the heavy heart that I share the news of a great loss with the passing of Commander Jim Barger. Jim was the hammer, the nails, and the glue that kept VFW 445 at the ready. Please keep Barbara in your prayers. It will be hard to fill his shoes. He was laid to rest December 1, 2025 at the Beaufort National Cemetary. Post 445 will have a tribute for Commander Jim on December 14th from 1pm to 4pm at the Post. We hope you will join us in sharing stories and memories of Jim.

Remember during this time of giving that there are many veterans and their families that are in need. Our service Officer Daryl Smith and our Chaplain Charles Blanken can provide you with the information of where and how to give.

On December 7 at 11, I hope that many of you will be able to attend the Pearl Harbor Day Memorial service at Patriots Point. Wreaths from our post and our Auxiliary will be presented.

December 19th we will have our Christmas Party. Wear your ugliest sweater.

I wish you a Holiday of cheer, love, and gratitude. God Bless

TERENCE M. HOFFMAN

November 2025

Comrades, Auxiliary and those who support the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 445 had the honor of hosting the reunion for the USS George Washington Carver SSBN-656 men on October 21, 2025. The event was a great success. Thank you to all those who showed up and donated their time to welcome these men and women to our post. We at Post 445 are more than willing to accommodate reunions and special events in honor of our Service Members.

On November 11th, beginning at 11:00AM, we will honor all Veterans with our annual Veteran's Day Ceremony. Although traditionally it has been the American Legion Post 147 that places the flags at the cemeteries for our departed Veterans, I encourage all of you to join in the placing of the flags.

This is the month of thanks and appreciation. Thank you to all of those who have served, continue to serve, and have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy Holiday Season filled with family and friends. Please join us at the post on Thanksgiving where we will open our doors at 1:00PM to serve you.

Please remember to donate your time or other resources to assist Veterans in need. Volunteerism is always welcomed at the Ralph H Johnson VA Hospital as well as our post home- Rear Admiral J.J. Raby Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 445

Wishing the best of luck to our Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pin and Teacher of the Year Participants
